Bullerö Nature Reserve is owned by the state through the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and exists to promote outdoor life and recreation. The reserves offer nature experiences and have an exciting cultural history. The County Administrative Board of Stockholm manages the areas, which are maintained by employed nature rangers.

In June 2025, the decision was made to establish Nämdöskärgården Archipelago National Park, which is the first Swedish marine national park in the Baltic Sea.

“The national park covers an area of 25,300 hectares, of which 97 percent is water. It is located at the far eastern parts of Värmdö Municipality and consists of the outer and middle archipelago. The national park was formed to preserve a representative and varied marine and archipelago landscape in the Baltic Sea in a basically unchanged state.”

The official inauguration was celebrated on September 5, 2025.
